Control what is within your power to control.
post by Mike
The roster and rotation is in the hands of Anthopoulos and the front office. So... Snit and the players need to control the aspects of the game that are within their power to control. Like throwing strikes... not walking batters... and the most irritating development of this season... PASSED BALLS.
Tyler Flowers leads the NL with 13 passed balls in 441.2 innings. Who is 2nd? Wilson Ramos with the Mets at 10 PB in 667.1 innings of work.
Monday night Flow missed a pitch that went to wall which allowed a runner to advance and eventually score. This is what you would call a problem. Add in his offensive struggles (.229), McCann's age and the fact that their is no minor league option and the problem gets bigger.

Braves offense over the last seven days and why the trade market will be tight.
Post by Mike
As typical with this team our offense is clicking. Stats over the last seven days only Dansby, Riley and Flowers struggled over the last week,

With the Wild Card race this tight, fewer teams will be giving up talent.

How much is too much?
Post by Mike
We are 10-6 in July, but better figure out a way to get our guys more rest. Today and Wednesday present a great opportunity for that. The Royals are 37-64 on the season. I know every game counts, but what is the point of making it to the playoffs only to run out of gas?
Two with KC, a day off Thursday, then six crucial games. Sure would be nice for 20 - Donaldson (34 years old - 97 games played), 22 -Markakis (36 years old - 101 games played) and 5- Freeman (30 years old - 100 games played) to have fresh legs entering that series on Friday. Snit is going to have be the adult and tell these guys they are taking a day off... not ask them if they need it.
Blame it on creature comforts.

With college football attendance in declined many are looking for the answer to reverse the trend. Bottom line... where would you prefer to watch the game?

It takes a village...

To date the Braves have used 10 different starting pitchers. Not unusual in today's game. Cubs have used 8, Dodgers 9, Nationals 9.

Something or someone is missing...

It has been a very pleasant preseason without having to hear from Drama Queen Urban Meyer and his mobile program wrecking machine. It was just one year ago when Zack Smith was outed as a first class creep under the tutelage of the master creep himself Urban.
Still all is not well in the football world and Athlon's had to go and search for another Big 10 program to prop up as they ranked Michigan in the top 4 : Athlon's Top 25
I predict if Michigan is in the final four, we will see them blown out by Clemoson, Bama or the Dawgs.

Byrdie did a great job!
Post by Mike
If you watched the San Diego series you probably noticed Byrdie did the color work and did a spectacular job! He had just the right amount of Anchor Man references including dropping a Trident joke.
Hope he does a lot more! Frenchy and Byrdie in the box would a good combo with Skip too. According to this story Frenchy is suppose to do between 90 and 100 games hits year:

The best part of playing the Brewers is the view of front row Amy.

Statistically speaking...

Atlanta fans are feeling pretty good after that sweep, and we should be. We are 57-37 with a 7 game lead over the Nats and 8.5 over the Phillies.
Atlanta fans are feeling pretty good after that sweep, and we should be. We are 57-37 with a 7 game lead over the Nats and 8.5 over the Phillies.
We have legitimate starters in Keuchel and Soroka, and a
dangerous offense. We are close to being ready to challenge the Dodgers for
National League supremacy folks, but how close? Let’s dig into the stats to
find out.
Offensively the NL looks like this:
Batting average –
1 – Pittsburgh .270
2 – Colorado .268
3 – Braves .262
4 – Dodgers .262
On base percentage –
1 – Dodgers .342
2 – Cubs .338
3 – Braves .336
OPS – (On base pct + slg)
1 – Dodgers .807
2 – Braves .798
3 – Cubs .794
Home runs -
1 - Brewers 157
2 - Dodgers 152
3 - Braves 149
Home runs -
1 - Brewers 157
2 - Dodgers 152
3 - Braves 149
We are in the fight offensively for sure! So how does the
pitching stack up? Granted Keuchel has only had three starts so the gaps should
narrow, but if we want to win the NL I believe these numbers scream for another
starter AND a lock down reliever. Get the Giants on the phone!
ERA –
1 – Dodgers 3.40
3 – Cubs 3.85
5 – Braves 4.12
AVG. (Batting average of opponents)
1 – Dodgers .225
7 – Cubs .248
9 – Braves .252
WHIP
1 – Dodgers 1.09
7 – Cubs 1.32
11 – Braves 1.37 - still giving up too many walks.
SAVES (THIS IS SHOCKING… but how long can we do it by
committee?)
1 – Padres 35
2 – Braves 28
3 – Dodgers 27

And they're on the back stretch!

Work has kept us busy, but don't worry, Willy and I aren't gonna let this Brave's season pass without sharing our expert analysis.
So we pledge to post something daily from now on. It might be Braves, Dawgs, Jackets or Falcons ... after all... the magic season of Fall is on the horizon.
Here goes - The Braves open the second half Friday night in San Diego. They will play three games there then on to Milwaukee for three. The rotation has been adjusted with Keuchel going Friday, Julio on Saturday and Soroka going Sunday.
Snitker's biggest challenge for the balance of the season will be trying to keep the team on pace while also leaving something in the tank to get through the playoffs and challenge the Evil Blue Bastards from the west. He will have to limit Soroka's innings, find a way to rest Markakis, Freddie, McCann, and either develop Wilson into a viable starter or convince Anthopolis to buy one or a lock down closer.
The offense is potent enough and deep enough to keep up the scoring which has posted a +59 run differential (RDIF) which is second best in the league. The problem as I see it at this point and time is the team with best RDIF ... the Blue Scourge has outscored their opponents by 129 runs.
While we still have to take care of business in the NL East, we also need to be ready to stomp some Dodger butt when they come to town August 16th.
