Liberty is the only place that could get away with hiring a John.

Post by Mike

Liberty University is the only school that could get away with hiring a former high frequency user of escort services. I guess they have the power of forgiveness.

You said no hookers Stanley.

Not sure what happened with Wisenhunt, but this hire seems to be from left field.

I'm not letting this go...

Post by Mike

High school football fans in the state of Georgia deserve an explanation of the events that caused the state championship games to be bumped from the usual Friday and Saturday time slots, to mid-week.

The games were originally scheduled for December 7 and 8 at Mercedes Benz Stadium, but were moved to Tuesday and Wednesday December 11 and 12 when Arthur Blank’s soccer team, Atlanta United, reached the finals of the MLS tournament.

Arthur Blank controls Mercedes Benz Stadium and forced the GHSA to adjust to suit his best interest. Blank’s action is hardly a shock and should have been foreseen as a possibility by the GHSA.

Now thousands of students will be forced to miss days during exam week if they want to attend the games. The schools may dismiss classes for game day, but that day will need to be made up. Yeah.. I know students won’t complain much about getting out of school, but what about the parents?

If you work for a living you know about days offs. They are limited, and usually scheduled well in advance. If your child is playing in the finals and you live in say… Moultrie, you will burn at least one day off of work to attend the game and quite possibly two.

What if you are an official? Being a high school football official is a hobby, not a career. They have jobs. Sure the crews for the original Friday date may have already planned to take a day off, but the Saturday crew? What about support staff and volunteers?

This adjusted date may not seem like a big deal to the average fan, but it was a completely avoidable nuisance. A nuisance we must endure because Arthur Blank out maneuvered the GHSA when the contract was negotiated.

If this contingency was considered ahead of time why not have a viable back up plan in place that would allow for the games to occur on the original dates? Are there any events scheduled at Bobby Dodd stadium this week? What about at Mercer’s new football stadium?

These questions bellow were sent to Dr. Robin Hines, Executive Director of the GHSA, earlier this week. He has not responded as of this posting.

If we don't get a response soon we will be forwarding these questions to the executive committee which is listed here: Click here for member of GHSA executive committee

I really don't want to talk about it.

Post by Mike

If you're going to keep calling these wild ass special team plays, start executing them.

The fake field goal against LSU was costly. It killed momentum.

The fake field goal against Auburn was harmless but it didn't work either.

This fake punt... where to start?

I understand and like the call. Our defense was tired and the best way to keep Bama from scoring was to keep the ball. However.... have the guts to audible out of the call if you see at the line it won't work, or call timeout. Also, don't put the game into Fields hands. He is a great talent but is hesitant to throw sometimes. He had a man breaking open, but decided to eat it.

I don't blame Fields... I blame Kirby... and not for the attempt but the fake play design.

I really don't want to talk about it. So here is a good read.

Afterthought - Kirby is still the man to get us there, but we are 0 for 3 in special team fake play execution.

The buck stops where?

Post by Mike

Hey parents, fans, friends, referees and support staff... If you're psyched about playing the state title games mid week, tell the GHSA thanks.

Tell them thanks for making the kids skip school during exam week. Thanks for forcing you to take a day off you were planning on using during the holidays.

Personally I like to thank the people ultimately responsible for outcomes like this. If you were wondering:
If you need a live link to write a thank you email, it is here: robin.hines@ghsa.net

Don't forget that other team from Georgia chasing a title.

Post by Mike

While the world is focused on the events today in the Benz, there is another Team from Georgia chasing the dream.

Thanks Mel! You'll always be a DGD! Now ... who fills his spot?

Post by Mike

This is a great opportunity for Mel. Glad for him and the Buffs will improve under his leadership.

There's no crying in coaching... so who is our next DC? Whoever it is has to be like Mel... an extension of Kirby.

The slate is set.

The slate for the finals is set. Check out the exciting action in what will be a nearly empty Benz on Tuesday and Wednesday night December 11 & 12.

That's right Tuesday... because the GHSA is incompetent at contract negotiation.
